Introduction to Visas

Visas are categorized based on the individual’s situation and the purpose of their entry into Australia. Some visas permit temporary stays, while others allow for permanent residence. Below are some of the most common Australian visa types, explained in simple terms with minimal jargon.

Tourist Visa

This visa is for individuals visiting Australia for various reasons. There are different types of tourist visas depending on the purpose of the visit. For instance, if someone is entering for a holiday or to visit friends and family, they can apply for the Visitor Visa (Subclass 600).

Student Visa

This visa is for individuals who wish to expand their knowledge by studying at an Australian institution. Depending on your academic background, you may be eligible to apply to a school or university that aligns with your goals. Once you receive an offer letter, you will need a Student Visa to enter Australia.

Work Visa

Australian companies may seek talented workers from overseas when local resources do not meet their employment needs. In such cases, the hired overseas employees can enter Australia by applying for a work visa, with the support of the hiring company.

Family Visa

If an individual wishes to bring their child, spouse, parent, or other relatives to Australia, they will need to apply for the relevant visa. For instance, an Australian citizen can sponsor their overseas spouse for a Spouse Visa.

Business Visa

The Business Visa is for individuals interested in starting a business or investing a specific amount of money in a business in Australia. This visa allows eligible investors and businesspeople to enter Australia to establish and operate their own businesses.
